Give it a go

Is there a physical activity you’ve always wanted to try? Something that looks like fun but you’ve lacked the confidence or never found the time?

This November, we’re encouraging everyone to get out there and have a go— whether it’s learning how to tango, ride a tandem bike with your bestie or even start agility training with your dog. Perhaps you can pass on a skill to someone else.

Now is your opportunity to learn something new and get active!

Where to start

If you have an activity in mind, here’s some tips to get started:

  • Search online for a local club or community group website or social media page and find out if they offer low or no-cost ‘come and try’ sessions.

  • If someone you know is already doing an activity you’d like to try, ask if you can tag along—often gyms or dance studios run ‘bring a friend’ promotions or provide free guest passes.

  • Take a friend for moral support (and get them active too)

Don’t have a particular activity in mind? Try a Get Active Victoria video—learn to juggle, moonwalk or master a disco routine—there are loads to try.

Get your colleagues involved and make it a workplace event—everyone can do their own thing or you can pick an activity for everyone to try.

  • Make it fun: choose activities you enjoy which will keep you motivated and engaged.

  • Practice regularly: it’s key to improving skills.
