How to apply

Vouchers are available for eligible families
and activities.

We’re not taking applications now. You can apply for a voucher from 31 May 2021.

Find out if you are eligible to apply for your children and what types of activities and costs are included. For detailed information and Terms and Conditions about the Get Active Kids Voucher Program please read the Program Guidelines.

Who can apply?

To apply for a Get Active Kids voucher you must be:

  • the parent or legal guardian, temporary foster or kinship carer of an eligible child,
  • the holder of a valid Australian Government Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card with named dependants.
Who is eligible?

To be eligible for a voucher your child/dependant must be:

  • aged 4 to 18 years
  • a resident in Victoria
  • named on a current (at the time of your application) Australian Government Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card, and
  • named on a valid Australian Government Medicare card.

You can apply for more than one voucher if you have multiple eligible children/dependants.

You must apply separately for each child/dependant.

Special consideration

Special consideration may be provided to people who don’t meet the eligibility criteria. Applications will be assessed case-by-case.

Special consideration may apply if the child/dependant is aged 4 to 18 years, is a resident in Victoria and the parent/legal guardian/temporary foster or kinship carer of the eligible child:

  • has zero or very limited income, savings or community support, and
  • is a temporary or provisional visa holder, or undocumented migrant or international student, and
  • is unable to access Commonwealth income support (including JobKeeper and JobSeeker payments).
    OR
  • Children in statutory out of home care in Victoria may also be eligible for special consideration.

If you do not have an Australian Government Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card and believe you meet the financial hardship circumstances above, please email getactivekids@sport.vic.gov.au to check your eligibility.

What costs are covered?

You can be reimbursed up to $200 for costs related to:

  • membership, registration or general fees to participate at an affiliated sport or active recreation club, association or program
  • equipment required to participate in the nominated activity, including second-hand equipment
  • uniforms and clothing required to participate in the nominated activity, including second-hand uniforms

You must pay for the membership, registration fees, equipment or uniform first. You will then be reimbursed for part or all of the cost up to the value of $200.

The activity or program must be affiliated with a Victorian State Sporting Association or Victorian State Sport and Recreation Body that is recognised by Sport and Recreation Victoria.

To be reimbursed for equipment, uniform or clothing expenses:

  • the equipment (such as protective equipment, hockey stick, helmet, basketball, etc) and uniform items (including required uniform, appropriate footwear, socks, sports bra, etc) must be required for participation in the chosen sport or recreation activity
  • you must certify that the expenses relate to a current membership or registration for an activity or program provided by an affiliated sport or active recreation club, association or activity provider

Eligible sport and recreation activities

To be eligible, the activity or program must be affiliated with a Victorian State Sporting Association or Victorian State Sport and Recreation Body that is recognised by Sport and Recreation Victoria.

How much you can be reimbursed

You can apply for any amount above $50 and up to $200 for each child, but you must spend a minimum of $50 to be reimbursed for eligible out of pocket expenses associated with your child’s sport or recreation activity.

You will be reimbursed for your expenses to the closest dollar. For example:

You will need to provide copies of invoices and/or receipts as proof of purchase or provide a copy of your payment plan agreement when you apply.

When you can apply?

There are specific dates (claim periods) when you can apply. You must have incurred your expenses within specific dates too.

There is a total of 100,000 vouchers available from 1 March 2021 until 17 April 2022.

Subject to availability, you can apply for up to two vouchers for each eligible child from 1 March 2021 to 17 April 2022. However, you can only apply for one voucher per child in a claim period.

If you submit your application outside of these dates, it will not be accepted.
